Culinary Dropout -- Scottsdale, AZ

Sunday fun day, on April 17, 2022 we spent our day meandering around one of our favorite interactive art museums, Wonderspaces, located in the Scottsdale Fashion Square. We were surprised to find this gem tucked away behind the expansive food court within the mall. After signing the waiver, we entered the unique space and started exploring. Please note that we do not recall the names of the exhibits we visited, nor can we remember the particular artist(s) who created them.

This museum has a handful of touring exhibits that originate from artists around the world. Early on during our visit Sarah frolicked about in a room that focused on shadow and light play. The room was dimly lit, with the exception of a projector system that exhibited different wavelengths of light within a shadow.

From there we moved into another dark room that also utilized both lights and darks in a majestic atmospheric experience. In the center of the room was an arrangement of disco balls, illuminated by strategically place projectors around the space that threw up a light spectacle that resembled the night sky.

A third room, shaped as a particularly long rectangle, was covered in a continuous chalkboard from floor to ceiling. In big, bold white letters, the phrase "Before I die..." was printed near the top; additional sentence prompts also read "Before I die I want to __________." Positioned around the room were a few rectangular prisms with an open top containing colored chalk that were available for visitors to record their thoughts and aspirations. - Sarah Love

Kenny added, "Before I die I want to see the Northern Lights." While Sarah can not recall what she contributed to the space, she did offer a smile, wink, and nod in Kenny's general direction (as Kenny remembers it). This was our first visit, but definitely will not been our last.

During this whimsical journey though the Wonderspaces interactive art museum we developed quite an appetite. From there, we walked in the direction of the Scottsdale Waterfront and down to Culinary Dropout where we enjoyed some cool, refreshing libations, and, as you could have guessed, another pretzel.

These delectable treats were shaped as little, big nuggets which is quite the oxymoron. There was a moderate amount of salt sprinkled on the golden brown morsels. The pretzel bites were light, fluffy and excellent for snacking. Served along side of them was a heated provolone cheese fondue which really accentuated the taste of the pretzels.

Pretzels alone: 3.0/5.0
With provolone fondue: 4.0/5.0

Finney's Crafthouse -- Santa Barbara, CA

On Friday, March 18th, 2022, Kenny and Sarah arrived at the Museum of Sensory & Movement Experiences. 11:00 am was opening and that was when we showed up - we were the only ones there for a while so that was pretty special. We've been to better interactive art museums, but this one definitely proved to be a good time.

Afterwards, Kenny and Sarah headed to the Santa Barbara pier jutting out over the harbor. We saw numerous boats, large seagulls and interesting people.

Sarah had just bought new heart-shaped sunglasses from Love Glasses Revolution and wanted to do a photo shoot to send the pictures to the company as promotional material (see reviews on website). She was ridiculous with the different types of outfits she wanted to plan to accent each of the accessories but settled on a basic outfit due to cooler temperature restraints. She did have a variety of scarves and hats to complement each of the different types and colors of sunglasses though. Lots of photographs were taken and some even showed up on the retailer's website, all labeled with Kenny's watermark!

After the photo session, we decided we should enjoy some delicious ice cream from the Great Pacific Ice Cream Co. While we were standing in line an unfortunate calamity occurred to the lady in front of us as her freshly scooped ice cream fell to the ground. Granted she was holding her cone sideways, but that's a different story for another time.  It was quite humorous in a horribly sad kind of way. We do not remember the fate of that woman's experience, but we did enjoy our own ice cream.

When we were done with our treat, we wandered down State Street checking out shops and stopping for Turkish coffee along the way. Then we walked for a while out of the main part of town to a brewery and were disappointed to find the kitchen was closing without time to order food. So we decided to walk back in the twilight and arrived to the main strip where there were plenty of eateries and people. We ended up eating at a crowded restaurant called Finney's Crafthouse. Here we had our third Santa Barbara pretzel.

After looking at the picture we realized the regular shaped pretzel had a twisted
texture encompassing the whole pretzel. It was normally salted (neither light nor heavy) and accentuated the golden-brown colored appetizer. The doughy taste familiarly resembled a ball-park pretzel.

The accoutrements included beer cheese, whole grain mustard, which was amazingly sweet, and a very rich, delicious caramel. The mustard and especially caramel made the whole snack pop!

3.0/5.0
